We’ve been calving like crazy which means we’ve had to kick pairs out of the barn at least once a day if not more the past week or so. Thankfully with the nice weather, they are more than happy to move out to our Hoop barns and eventually to our pasture pens. February is when we have the most calves, but we start as early as January 15 and wrap up around March 15 with the 500ish cows in our spring calving herd. I like straw better. We do not mow these stalks first, we use the twin rake, set it a little higher and rake the loser stalks and husks.
