Glaucoma causes ↔️ peripheral vision loss due to increased ⬆️ intraocular pressure (IOP). Excessive IOP can result in compression of photoreceptors and nerves, causing them to become ischemic and damaged. There are two types of glaucoma you should know: 1️⃣ Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) - chronic, gradual increase of IOP 2️⃣ Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) - sudden onset ✨NCLEX TIP: Primary angle-closure glaucoma is a 🚨medical emergency!🚨 If your client develops sudden, severe pain
